With a spacious pet-friendly campground and calm billabong views, it was the perfect place to unwind, enjoy a campfire, and soak up the simplicity of being outdoors.

Why This Spot?

Cam and Michaela chose Gootchie Creek for its open space and peaceful setting. Located on a 600-acre working cattle farm, the campground offers unpowered sites where you can pick your own spot, whether it’s near the billabong, tucked under the trees, or out in the open paddocks.

Best Time to Visit

April was a great time to go. The days were warm enough for a swim, the evenings cool enough for a campfire, and it wasn’t too busy. The billabong is spring-fed and stays full all year round, making it a reliable spot for a refreshing dip no matter the season.

Tips for Future Travellers

• Gootchie Creek is pet-friendly, but dogs need to stay on a lead at all times

• Fires are allowed in drums provided on-site (outside of fire bans), and you can grab firewood there too

• There are clean toilets, hot showers, and even a baby bath, but there are no bins, so take your rubbish with you

• Swimming is welcome, but fishing is off-limits to protect the resident platypus and turtles 

• Swimmers for a dip in the billabong

• Firewood (or grab some on-site)

• Drinks for sunset and something comfy for the fire
