The difference is in the quality. The best quality artificial grass, although perhaps requiring a larger initial investment, proves to be the most cost-effective in the long term. muk mats use top quality 40mm blade, UV protected, synthetic grass made from recycled materials. Very importantly, muk mats have a backing that consists of 2 separate layers. This ensures the fibres will not detach from the backing and able to recover from foot traffic. muk mats also have a waterproof web binding to prevent fraying and a Velcro strap to secure them for travel and storage. Finally, you are supporting a small local business by choosing muk mat.
Each muk mat weight is based on their size. Below are the weights of our mats.
Pull out step muk mat : 500g
Step muk mat: 450g
Original muk mat: 900g
Large muk mat: 1.5kg
XL muk mat: 2kg
Please note, the Grey Mats follow the same weights. For custom mat designs, please reference the mat sizes and their weights as a guide for your custom design.
No, the step mat does not come with a Velcro strap.
The strap is used on the larger mats to secure them when rolled. In transport, the step mat does not require rolling. Additionally, applying the strap to the step caused the step to not sit flush on the surface.
The pull-out step mat has 2 Velcro straps used to secure it to the step.
Please note, although the velcro strap and binding are colourfast, contact with some cleaners
may lead to dye leeching. Ensure your muk mat is dry or placed in dry conditions to avoid
transfer to other materials including vinyl flooring.
Most of the time it will just need a shake and a brush down with your hand. Please don’t shake using in the velcro strap as this may compromise the binding.
For long-term maintenance, you can simply wash your muk mat with water using a hose. This is ideal if you just want to remove any excess mud and dirt. When using detergents to clean your muk mat, you can use low suds and neutral detergents or artificial turf cleaners. Leave it in the sun to dry and shake out any excess grit.
It is important to avoid cleaners on or near the binding and Velcro strap. Although colourfast,
contact with some cleaners may lead to dye leeching. Ensure your muk mat is dry or placed in
dry conditions to avoid transfer to other materials including vinyl flooring.
Over time, due to wear and tear, the grass blades will flatten, particularly if used frequently. To fluff it back up, the trick is to wait until the warmest point of that day. Pop your muk mat in the sun for about 10 minutes. The heat makes the recycled plastic blades more malleable. Using your fingers, a broom or plastic rake - bush the blades in the opposite direction.
The striated groves on the backing mean the muk mat does not slip easily. If unsure, we recommend placing some non-slip mesh underneath your muk mat.
All mats and floor rugs can have the opportunity to be a trip or slip hazard. muk mat blades are made from recycled plastics, and plastic does have the potential to be slippery especially when wet. Please take care and ensure you minimise the risk of falls by securely fastening your mat and or using a non-slip mesh underneath. When using caravan stairs, risks of falls or slips can be reduced by ascending and descending slowly and holding onto a steady object.
Yes, muk mats can be left in the sun.
All muk mats are UV protected; however, as with any recycled plastic material, the artificial turf can be damaged by intense heat. This can result in anything from curling corners, flattened blades or damage caused by refracted light.
Refracted light can be from materials such as glass, aluminium checker plate step sides and stainless steel. Refracted light damage is rare, but please take care to avoid by storing your mat out of direct sunlight to prevent overheating and melting of the plastic blades.
Items left on your muk mat for a period of time may heat up and leave permanent marks on your mat.

To keep up with the rapid growth and the huge product demand for our muk mats, we have had to make the decision to temporarily cease our custom made muk mat service, due to the time and resources required to make them.
The backing on muk mats is made from plastic consisting of 2 layers of Polypropylene fabrics
and coated in a polyurethane layer for strength and resistance, you will find it less likely to mark
your floor when compared to rubber mats.
It is important to note that the although the velcro strap and binding are colourfast, contact with
some cleaners may lead to dye leeching. Ensure your muk mat is dry or placed in dry conditions
inside to avoid transfer to other materials including vinyl flooring.
No. Contact with some cleaners and sanitisers, can compromise the colourfast binding and
Velcro. Should your muk mat come into contact with a sanitiser or cleaning product, rinse with
water and leave in the sun to dry before using.

Our muk mats are becoming increasingly popular to use as a pet mat. Dogs and cats love to rest and sleep on them. They are great to reduce the muk coming inside off their paws. They are also great to use in the car for your pet to sit on.
Muk mats are not designed as toilet mats for your pets and will start to smell very quickly. If your pet is using your mat in this way, please refer to the cleaning and care instructions for your mat and maintain this on a regular as needs basis.
